Governor

D. Gordon Woodland, BA, B.Ed., LLB, K.C, LFNL Governor and Senior Partner with the Law Firm of Smyth Woodland Del Rizzo Barrett in St. John’s.

Following a three-year teaching tenure, Gordon has been engaged in the private practice of law for almost forty years.  For over thirty-five years of that time, he has served as both Chair and Member on LFNL Committees, and it has been a great pleasure to serve as a Governor of the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador for the past five years.  He is grateful for being part of this important and worthwhile organization. During this time, he has had the pleasure of working with exceptional colleagues and outstanding Executive Directors.

He has always been a proponent of community service, legal education, and as a lawyer, access to justice. This has never been more important to society in its relationship with the justice system than at this moment in time.  He is certain the Foundation will continue to grow and evolve in the coming years and will continue to serve and support the people of this province.

It has been 41 years since he entered law school, and his career continues to be personally fulfilling.  For Gordon, the most rewarding part of his roles with the LFNL have been interacting with and supporting students and future law school attendees.

In his spare time, he enjoys time with his granddaughter first, then cooking, reading, and spending as much time as possible with family and friends.
